Day Trip to Heidelberg

Today a group of 11 of us went out to Heidelberg. We took a taxi to Landstuhl to get a train to Heidelberg. Here's a picture of my friend Molly (a fellow Coug) at the train station.
When we got into Heidelberg we ate lunch at a local pub type place. I got a plate of cheese and bread that was a bit weird, but a new experience non-the-less. After wandering around and buying Gelato we finally found the way up to the ruined castle. The hike had over 20% grade on a cobble road up to the castle but it was worth it. Here's a picture of me near the top.
We saw a wine barrel that could hold 60,000 gallons of wine (the largest in the world I believe) We got a guided tour around the places regular public can't go for only 2 Euro and learned about a little German history. The castle was built over a period of 400 years and had its hay day in the 1620s. Although parts of it were crumbling or had been blown to bits it was still beautiful in its own way. One of the owners of the castle built his wife her own private gardens on the roof of the castle for her 19th birthday! Here's a picture of the me on the old bridge with the castle in the background.
After checking out the old town for a while we headed home for a relaxing night at home. Tomorrow we plan on sleeping in and hanging out at the Aquatic Center on Base.
